Select Level (Entry Point)

Overview:
The Select Program is the entry-level tier of Sandy Spring Soccer Club’s Travel Pathway, designed for players seeking a step up from recreational soccer but with a more manageable commitment than full Travel or Academy programs.

Select serves as a bridge between rec/pre-travel and travel/academy levels, offering:

• Professional coaching
• Travel program curriculum
• Player tracking and development tailored to each player’s level

This program focuses on skill development, growth, and fun while preparing players for the next level of competitive soccer.

Age Groups: U8–U14

Commitment & Expectations

Practices

• Fall & Spring: 2 sessions per week with licensed coaches
• Winter: 1 session per week with licensed coaches

Practice Location:  We will practice between North Silver Spring and Olney. Varies each season based on permits; commitment is to the program, not the location.

Games

• League competition in Fall and Spring
• Typically on Saturdays or Sundays
• Travel: Minimal as most games are in Montgomery County

Season Length

• 10-month commitment: September – June

Player Profile

• Players eager to advance beyond recreational soccer
• Development-oriented, focused on technical foundation and tactical understanding
• Mix of new and returning travel players still solidifying skills

League

• MDSL (Maryland Developmental Soccer League): Local/regional league appropriate for player development.
• Focus on skill-building and competitive experience without heavy travel demands.

Cost

• $600 (Returning), $700 (New). Fees are per season.
• Covers professional coaching, league fees, tournaments, field costs, and club operations
• Uniforms, warm-ups, and backpacks included when first joining the program. 

Financial aid available for qualifying families (apply before accepting a team invite)

Payment Structure Update – Fall 2026 Season

Starting with the Fall 2026 season, there will be a slight fee increase. In addition, our program will move to a 10-month payment plan, giving families the option to pay monthly.

Families will still have the option to pay seasonally, divided into three payments, if they prefer.

Annual Fees (Fall, Winter, and Spring - includes tournaments)

• New Players: $1,975 + $150 uniform fee
• Returning Players: $1,875
• Both the monthly plan and the 3-payment seasonal option will cover the full annual fee.

*Fee increase explanation - The cost of youth soccer continues to rise, including expenses such as tournaments, league fees, referee fees, and overall operational costs. While our club does receive sponsorship support to help offset these increases, it is not enough to fully absorb them without adjusting fees. Even with this change, our club remains among the most affordable options compared to neighboring programs, and families continue to receive exceptional value and quality for their investment.

Tryouts

• Held in late spring to form teams for the following seasonal year
• Players may contact the Travel Director to attend evaluation practices at other times if roster space allows.
